FAQs

When do commissions reopen?

Long story short: I don’t know. I very rarely have specific dates or times because my availability also depends on how busy I am with my full-time job and if I have backlog or other projects I need to finish. Please do not DM me about this.

Can I commission a copy of Manacled?

No. I no longer accept commissions for Dramione works, or any Harry Potter fanfiction.

Do you ship to my country?

If you are outside the US, verify that USPS ships to you. You can find more information about international shipping in Basics under Shipping.

If I subscribe to your Patreon, can I commission you when slots are available?

You can, but it’s not guaranteed since slots are first come, first served. I don’t advise subscribing just to commission. However, if you are interested in learning how to typeset and bookbind, then I urge you to subscribe.

Will you show us how to <<specific typesetting/bookbinding step>>?

I don’t take video requests and I try not to promise anything, because it’s hard to film certain processes, especially ones with multiple steps such as a custom covers. If I could I would, but I multitask and while I bind, there are other things going on in the background that I can’t film. One day I’ll set aside a few hours of solely bookbinding so I can set up a camera and not worry about my surroundings.

Will you send me the typeset PDF for <<title of fic>>?

No. I used to offer typesets for free publicly, but a handful of people have been caught uploading the files to a printing company (illegal) or attempting to pay another binder to bind my files (unethical). I no longer share typesets. Please do not DM me asking for an exception.

I have a few questions about typesetting and bookbinding. Do you have time to answer them?

I get this DM so often on all my social media, and while I’d like to entertain all of you, I would have no time to actually craft if I do. The best way to get one-on-one typesetting and bookbinding support from me would be through Patreon. You can DM me there, or you can schedule a video call based on your tier level, and/or I can give you my personal email so you can send me your file to check (I get this request a lot, too.)

Do you know other binders who are willing to bind Dramione fics?

I only trust barnettdidit and boundbymirimah for their honest pricing, and respect of copyright law and the art of typesetting and bookbinding.

Will you let us know when commissions reopen?

I will make an announcement a week before slots reopen to my OMFG and ZOMG Patreon subscribers first. If there are any slots left over, I will announce that on here, right on the home page.

Can you show us how to typeset or how to make the fic look like that in Word/PDF?

Typesetting tips and tutorials are available to OMFG and ZOMG Patreon subscribers only. I am self-taught, so I am very protective of my techniques.

You don’t bind for profit, but can I pay you extra anyway?

Your support would be greatly appreciated. My Ko-fi is set-up to accept tips/donations apart from commissions if you’re feeling extra generous.

Do the authors get a cut of the commission fee?

No, because I don’t even get a cut of the commission fee. Every penny is spent on materials and shipping, and often I have to cover some costs as well. It is illegal to profit off of fanfiction.

Why is it illegal to have Lulu or Barnes & Noble Press bind fanfiction for me?

These printing companies would be making a profit off of someone else’s intellectual property. Lulu has spoken out about this here and here and here and here. I had already reached out to B&N Press about this and they also concur here that one would need to be the IP rights holder to publish works through their service.

Are you selling <<title of fic>>?

No. The books I bind are either made to order via commissions, are for myself, or are gifted to authors. I’m not a bookstore, so I don’t have books just lying about waiting for a buyer.

Where can I learn how to bookbind?

You can subscribe on Patreon where I post bookbinding and typesetting tips, tutorials, and techniques. You can also watch a step-by-step playlist on my YouTube channel.

There are numerous free resources on YouTube—I recommend DAS Bookbinding and Sage Reynolds if you want to go in-depth on the craft.
